Located on the ground floor of the Mauritius Institute, built around 1880, the Mauritius Natural History Museum gives you a chance to learn more about the fauna and flora of the paradise island. You will have the chance to admire the native and endemic birds of Mauritius, geological specimens, works of art and also research documents.
You will have the opportunity of being amazed by the vast fauna and flora of Mauritius at this Museum. With expositions about the Java deer, Tangue, Roussette Noire, reptiles, lizards, snakes and Geckos.
Fans of marine life will not be disappointed either, you will get to admire life-sized replicas of fish, dolphins, sharks and rays and you will also be in awe of the rich collection of seashells.
The third room of the museum holds the collection of insects and butterflies. There is also a wing for fans of geology which exposes different rocks of the island along with a simulation of a volcanic eruption. There is also a section dedicated to the endemic woods and medicinal plants of Mauritius and Rodrigues.
