About the Sainte-Thérèse Church

Discover the Sainte-Thérèse-d’Avila Church in Curepipe, the second-largest town in Mauritius. This sacred space is a symbol of the Catholic faith, proudly standing as the largest church on the island.

Curepipe became a parish due to the migration of people from coastal regions, seeking refuge in the highlands to escape malaria.

In October 1989, the church welcomed a distinguished guest, Pope John Paul II, during his apostolic visit to Mauritius, highlighting its importance to the Catholic community.

In 2003, Sainte-Thérèse Church received the revered relics of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus, further enriching its spiritual significance and drawing pilgrims from afar.

Today, its towering spire and stunning architecture continue to inspire devotion, echoing the enduring power of faith and heritage.
