Ebony Forest Discovery Tour

Experience the lush beauty of Ebony Forest with the Discovery Tour. Opt for the “Take a Hike” option to tackle exhilarating trails and enjoy panoramic views from the summit of Piton Canot, or choose the “Take a Drive” option for a more leisurely exploration, discovering the forest’s highlights from the comfort of a jeep with scenic stops along the way.

Guided Birdwatching Tour through Ebony Forest

Guided Love Tree Tour at Ebony Forest - Plant Your Own Endemic Tree

Ebony Forest Sublime Sundowner - Guided Tour & Open-Air Safari

The Sublime Sundowner tour allows you to enjoy an afternoon guided visit of Ebony Forest, a 30-min tour on the raised walkway to the Sublime Point followed by an open-air safari through the forest at night.

When all other visitors have gone home, relax and watch a beautiful sunset with a drink in hand from the romantic Sublime Point of the nature reserve.

• Activity Time: 15:30 - 17:30/18:30 (end time may vary)
• Duration: 3-4 hours
• Minimum number of participants: 2 adults
• You can request a later jeep tour in summer (1st November – 31 March) as the sun sets later. Should you wish to do some hiking, come earlier. If you just want to watch the sunset then this is also possible.

Ebony Forest

Ebony Forest is a vital conservation area in Mauritius, committed to preserving the island’s unique plants and wildlife. Key achievements include:

• 41,000+ endemic and native plants planted
• 16 hectares of forest weeded & planted
• Ecology Centre established
• Reintroduction of Pink Pigeon and Echo Parakeet
• Protection of over 140 endemic species

Profit generated from ecotourism activities are reinvested into the conservation of the flora and fauna, which has been ongoing since 2006.

Flycatcher Raised Walkway - A guide will lead you on the 300m Flycatcher raised walkway with 113 steps up and 142 down that you'll barely notice during your visit.

Sublime Point - As its name indicates, it is simply Sublime and offers one of the best views in Mauritius, if not THE best. Admire the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Le Morne and the Pieter Both mountain while fruit bats and tropic birds soar along the ridgeline.

• You can access the raised walkway either from the Ridgeline Trail, Piton Canot Trail or at the safari jeep drop off point.
• Clients are requested to descend from Sublime Point before 17:00.
• Snacks can be bought at Sublime Point.

Safari Jeeps - Safari jeeps at Ebony Forest take you from the Flycatcher Raised Walkway to Sublime Point and back to the Visitor Centre—just make sure to pre-book for the ride!

• Each jeep has limited capacity so availability is not guaranteed; additional charges may apply.
• Walking through the Ebony forest is recommended for a more immersive experience.

Museum - The Ebony Forest museum is where you can witness 8 million years of the island’s history, including the history of the unique animals and plants that inhabited Mauritius.

Plant Nursery - Visit the only nursery in Mauritius dedicated to propagating only native and endemic species, specialising in growing species from coastal to upland areas, including rare and threatened species.

Boutique - Your visit and any purchase in the onsite Shop have a hand in helping offset carbon and save endangered species from extinction.

Note: Activity time will be subject to the time slots available at the park. If clients miss their specific time slot booked, there will be no money refund or rescheduling.

Please note that the day schedule should be planned taking into consideration of the following points:

• Ebony Forest is closed on 25 Dec & 01 Jan.
• Activities/ Facilities which are not included in your selected option are subject to an additional cost.
• Reservation must be done and confirmed at least 48 hours in advance.
• Children under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Any child not accompanied will be refused access.
• Clients are requested to arrive 15 minutes prior to activity time.
• The Flycatcher raised walkway is more than 4m in height so if you suffer from vertigo, please inform our staff in advance.

Rules and Regulations

• It is forbidden to bring any illegal substances, alcohol, firearms and/or generally any other object which is likely to be offensive, dangerous and/or is illegal.
• It is forbidden to disturb or harass the animals and tranquillity of Ebony i.e, by musical instruments, audio equipment, screaming, shouting etc.
• It is forbidden and a criminal offence to remove, any animal, plant, part of the landscape and/or any other structure and/or to damage or deface any of the aforesaid.
• It is forbidden for any visitors to picnic, climb stone walls or trees, or litter.
• Any food and drink purchased within Ebony Forest Reserve must be consumed within the designated zones.
• Footwear must be worn at all times. No shirtless/topless dress is allowed. Bottoms must be worn at all times.
• The Sanctuary shall not be responsible whatsoever, for any loss, damage and/or theft of your personal belongings.
• Ebony Forest Reserve is a natural site and hence there are risks from falling branches and steep slopes. It also undergoes active forestry activities. Please pay attention.
