Horse riding course:
As part of the horse riding trip you will experience the thrill of riding along cliff tops with amazing ocean views of the rugged south coast, or the tranquility of ancient river beds with spectacular water falls.
The horse riding excursion is of 3 hours which start at the morning time and ends around noon time.
You have the choice between choosing one of these riding courses:
- Rochester Falls Ride - Discover the enchanting Rochester Falls on a horseback excursion. Leaving the stables and riding through the sugar estate, discover this spectacular water fall where riders can dismount and enjoy a refreshing swim in the river, before enjoying drinks and snacks. Ride back to the stables via the old sugar estate of La Terracine, passing the stone chimney of the sugar mill that still stands, as well as a Tamil temple which gives an indication of the religious activities that used to take place in the community of the sugar cane workers.
- Exil Trail Horse Riding trip - A three hour ride that leaves the stable yard and meanders through the sugar cane fields. Following a river course, with plenty of opportunities to trot and canter, this trail takes you high up into the interior until you reach the cliff tops overlooking Combo National Park where the National bird, the Pailles en Queue, can often be seen.
You will get to discover the Exil Lodge nestled against the cliffs overlooking the spectacular Leon Cascade. Then after enjoy the ride back down to the stables.
About the horses:
All the horses are retired race horses which took part in the local horse races of Mauritius. These horses got the chance for a second career where these has been rehabilitated to live a life more natural than the ones to which they have grown accustomed in the racing world.
The horses you will be riding are well trained and the equipment used is maintained to ensure comfort and safety. All the horses undergo extensive re-schooling to ensure that they are suitable for the trail rides before being offered to clients.
Horse Riding suitable for all levels:
The horse riding excursion is suitable for riders of all ability levels. Whether you are an experienced rider or a novice, your trail will be tailored according to your skills and preferences.
Beginners will be encouraged to try gentle trots and canters on their first ride, while their horse is under the control of an experienced guide, leaving them free to enjoy the sensation and the spectacular scenery.
The more experienced riders will enjoy exhilarating trots and canters in wide open spaces. In both cases you are sure to discover many hidden secrets in this stunning setting at the south of Mauritius.
What to bring?
Please wear long, comfortable trousers and closed shoes. Sun screen and mosquito repellent are recommended. Of course also don’t forget to bring a camera to capture all the magical moments and beautiful spots you will visit along the ride.
Choose your horse riding skills level:
When planning each of the horse riding excursion we make sure to tailor made the exact riding course as per the horse riding skill level and experience of the participants.
Accordingly, when booking the horse riding excursion please make sure to indicate your horse riding level from the three options mentioned below:
Beginner rider – has no previous experience in horse riding
Intermediate rider - must be able to control horse independently
Advance rider – should be able to control horse at all paces
Comments:
- This horse riding trail is suitable from the age of seven years old however riders under 12 years will all be led by grooms to ensure safety at all times (unless the child is Level 3 Gallop or higher)
- Horse rides are available every day of the week
- We make sure to tailor made each horse ride as per clients preferences and riding level
- All riders are required to wear safety approved riding helmets, which are provided before starting the horse ride
Optional Lunch – it is possible to end the horse riding excursion with lunch at the beautiful Andrea Lodge in a quaint, thatched Restaurant perched high above the cliff with spectacular views of the ocean.
The lunch consists of a dry beef curry, accompanied by rice, vegetables, lentils, salads, three soft drinks and water. The additional charge for lunch is 13 Euro/person.
