The catamaran will be docked in the Black River Bay, protected from the winds by a majestic mountain range that will be your scenery for the night. Flat Island is a very popular venue for snorkelers, and also offers great dive sites. The island offers beautiful beaches with crystal clear turquoise water.

Situated in the North part of Mauritius, in the heart of a fertile orchard and splendid garden lies The Château de Labourdonnais, where endemic plants and large varieties of exotic trees grow in harmony.

Inspired by Italian neoclassical architecture, the residence stretches out on two levels. The house was built mainly from teak wood and has a double colonnaded gallery. The layout of the house follows that of the private mansions of the nineteenth century, with a central hallway leading on one side to the dining room and on the other to the main lounge. The bedrooms are situated upstairs.

After visiting the château, you can stroll through the lush gardens and old orchards where large fairways invite you for a promenade, displaying the horticultural wealth of the region.

Visit of the Château de Labourdonnais Gardens and Orchards

As part of the tour of the gardens you will get to see hundred-year-old mango trees, spice trees such as nutmeg and clove, as well as several exotic fruit trees such as the pomme jacot, the sapote, the jamalac and the Kythira plum.

Rum Factory - Rhumerie des Mascareignes distillery

The Rhumerie des Mascareignes was built in 2006. A new industry on the domain which exemplifies the diversification of the sugarcane industry. The distillery operates during the sugarcane harvest.

As part of the visit of the distillery you will learn about the old techniques of agricultural rum and the production of this treasured spirit.

Two different rum labels, Rhumeur and La Bourdonnais, produced by the distillery are available at the tasting bar and the boutique at the château.

Day 4: Chamarel Visit: Coloured Earth, Rum Distillery and Lunch

Seven Coloured Earth

The “Seven-Coloured Earth” of Chamarel is a geological curiosity and a major tourist attraction of Mauritius. It is a small (7500 m2) area of strikingly bare landscape located within a large, dense forest. The earth is particularly unusual as it was created by volcanic rocks that cooled at different temperatures, allowing the earth to form beautiful patterns of colour on the exposed hillsides. When visiting the park, you will be able to walk between the many sand dunes and contemplate this unique sight.

Rhumerie de Chamarel

Situated in the South West part of Mauritius, in the heart of a fertile valley lies the Rhumerie de Chamarel which is surrounded by vast sugarcane plantations growing in harmony with pineapples and other tropical fruits. Displaying a unique sense of warmth and authenticity, the Rhumerie de Chamarel Distillery welcomes visitors for an all-encompassing tourism experience ranging from a guided visit of the distillery and rum tasting to a tasty meal at L’Alchimiste, its own stylish and creative “A la Carte” restaurant. As a visitor of the Rum Distillery you can marvel at its unique design which blends harmoniously with the spectacular surroundings where wood, natural stone and water provide a sense of communion with nature.
