Half Day Hike at Le Morne Brabant
Climbing Le Morne Brabant is one of the most meaningful and rewarding outdoor experiences in Mauritius. Rising 556 metres above sea level, this UNESCO World Heritage Site stands as a powerful symbol of freedom and resilience in the island’s history.
Over approximately 3h30 to 4h, you will ascend, reach the summit cross and descend with a true sense of achievement.
The Ascent
Your hike begins at the base of Le Morne, where your guide provides a short briefing before starting the climb. The first section follows a wide and steady path through greenery. As you gain altitude, the landscape changes and the trail becomes steeper and more rocky.
The final section is the most exciting part of the journey. You will use your hands for balance while navigating natural rock formations under the supervision of your certified guide. This is what makes the summit of Le Morne so special - it is earned, not simply reached.
The Summit Experience
At the top, the famous summit cross marks the highest accessible point. From here, you will enjoy breathtaking panoramic views; the colours of the lagoon stand out in brilliant contrast against the mountain landscape.
Le Morne is closely linked to the island’s Maroon heritage, as it once served as a refuge for runaway slaves seeking freedom. Standing at the summit adds a deeper meaning to the experience.
There is time to rest, take photos and fully appreciate the significance of this historic mountain before beginning your descent.
Descent and Return
The descent follows the same route and requires focus, especially on the rocky sections. Your guide remains with the group at all times to ensure safety and pacing. By the end of the hike, you return with not only photos, but a strong feeling of accomplishment.
This experience is ideal for adventurous couples, groups of friends or active travellers looking for something more meaningful than a simple walk. It is a physical, historical and scenic highlight of any stay in Mauritius.

Nooriah was brilliant throughout the bookings made. Unfortunately one of our trips had to be cancelled due to weather and Nooriah handled the refund request in a prompt and professional manner.
Steeve was a great guide and very friendly. The hike was quite challenging (more than expected) but worth it at the end
