Mauritius Weddings - FAQs
Who can we speak to about planning our wedding in Mauritius?
From start to finish you will have the support of our knowledgeable reservations team here at Mauritius Attractions. Also, an experienced wedding planner will be on hand for you during your stay in Mauritius. From start to finish, we will be more than happy to advise you on anything you need to know about your wedding in Mauritius and plan your fantasy wedding to the highest standards.
How much notice is required to organise a wedding?
To ensure all wedding paperwork is completed and submitted to the Civil Status Office, we require at least six weeks' notice. For more elaborate wedding ceremonies or if you're booking a complete wedding package that includes flights, hotel, and the wedding itself, we recommend finalizing all bookings at least three months in advance.
How much does a wedding in Mauritius cost?
The cost of a wedding in Mauritius depends on the type of ceremony and package you choose. Whether it's a civil wedding on a tropical beach, a hotel wedding, a catamaran sunset wedding, a religious ceremony, or another type of celebration, the price will reflect the specific arrangements and services included.
At Mauritius Attractions, we offer a wide range of wedding packages to suit different budgets, from affordable options to more luxurious ones.
How long do we need to be in Mauritius before the ceremony?
We suggest that you are in Mauritius for at least three days before your wedding date.
Will the wedding ceremony be conducted in English?
All weddings in Mauritius are conducted in English. If you prefer the ceremony to be in French or another language, please inform us at the time of booking, and we will gladly arrange it for you.
Will the marriage be considered legal in your country?
Your wedding will be performed by a licensed marriage officer who ensures your wedding is completely legal and recognized both locally and internationally. This is an official wedding ceremony. The minimum age to get married in Mauritius is 18 years.
What happens if I have been divorced?
If you have been divorced for more than 10 months, we only need a copy of your decree absolute. For divorces within the last 10 months, Mauritian law requires a certificate of non-pregnancy from a Mauritian doctor. If the bride-to-be is pregnant, the divorce must be finalised for over 10 months before the wedding can proceed.
How do I transport my wedding dress?
Each airline has its own baggage policy for wedding dresses, which can vary and change over time. We recommend contacting the airline's reservations department before you travel to ensure they make the necessary arrangements for your wedding dress. Additionally, we suggest having all your wedding outfits professionally packed, as airlines will not allow you to hang them onboard the aircraft.
What should we wear for our wedding?
In Mauritius the emphasis is on relaxation feel but yet again, this is your decision to make and it is based on individual tastes and personal style. Whether you opt for classic elegance or casual comfort, from kilts and shorts to full wedding dresses and casual sun dresses, the choice is entirely yours!
Do we need witnesses?
Yes, Mauritian law requires two witnesses over the age of 18. If you're planning an intimate wedding for just the two of you, don't worry - Mauritius Attractions can arrange the witnesses for you.
Can we invite guests to the wedding?
Yes, you can invite as many guests as you like. However, if you're planning to have a large group, we recommend finalising flight, hotel, and wedding bookings well in advance to ensure availability for everyone. This will help avoid any issues with flights or accommodations being fully booked.
Can we have a same sex wedding?
Unfortunately, at this stage, we cannot organise same sex weddings or commitment ceremonies in Mauritius.
Are hair and beauty services available in Mauritius?
Yes, hair and beauty services can be arranged at most of our hotels in Mauritius with qualified stylists and makeup artists. If you're staying elsewhere, we can also organise for an individual professional to come to your accommodation to ensure you look stunning for your special day.
