Visit the Casela Nature Parks
No trip to Mauritius feels quite complete without a visit to Casela Nature Parks - one of the island’s best-known attractions and a true bucket-list experience!
Located beside the Rempart Mountain in the South West of Mauritius, Casela combines wildlife encounters, family fun and outdoor adventure across several thematic worlds, making it much more than just a nature park.
Entrance ticket includes:
- A unique chance to see antelopes, kudus, impalas, oryx, waterbucks, white rhinos, zebras, ostriches & more from the African Safari Truck. A Casela favourite
- Access to the Pangia Park with unlimited family-friendly rides & activities for all ages. A Casela day is not just about animals!
- A chance to see some of Casela’s most iconic residents up close, including lions, tigers and caracals at the Predator Kingdom.
- Either 1 ride on Casela’s famous Tulawaka Gold Coaster (6+ years), a thrilling 760m summer luge track with twists, bends and scenic views, or access to the immersive 4D Cinema, subject to availability.
(All activities and attractions which are not included in this package are pay-as-you-go)
Viewpoint of Morne Brabant and l’île aux Bénitiers
Discover the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Le Morne Brabant, a rugged mountain that juts into the Indian Ocean in the southwest of Mauritius. It was used as a shelter by runaway slaves and maroons through the 18th and early 19th centuries.
Protected by the mountain’s isolated and almost inaccessible cliffs, the escaped slaves formed small settlements in the caves and on the summit of Le Morne. The oral traditions associated with the maroons have made Le Morne a symbol of the slaves’ fight for freedom, their suffering and their sacrifice.
About 500 m off the coast at La Gaulette (South West of Mauritius) is l’ile aux Bénitiers. It is a large coral sand island approximately two kilometres long and 500 metres at its widest point and 65 hectares in area.
The island itself has very little biodiversity value since it has a highly modified vegetative cover and is used as a coconut plantation.
Chamarel Village – One of Mauritius’ Most Scenic Places
If there is one place that constantly pops up on Mauritius bucket lists, it is Chamarel Village.
Hidden in the lush South West, Chamarel is home to two of Mauritius’ most famous natural wonders:
-
The Seven Coloured Earth
You have probably already seen photos of it online - and yes, it really does look that unusual in real life.
Surrounded by lush greenery, this fascinating geological phenomenon features naturally coloured dunes in shades of red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow, creating an almost surreal, moon-like landscape. The geopark stretches across around 15 metres of beautifully coloured dunes and is also home to a few famously friendly giant tortoises, who usually steal a little attention from visitors too. There is also a coffee shop and souvenir shop onsite if you feel like taking a little break.
-
Chamarel Waterfall
While visiting Chamarel, you will also stop for views of the spectacular Chamarel Waterfall, often considered the most beautiful waterfall in Mauritius.
Fed by the St. Denis River, three streams plunge nearly 100 metres into a dramatic gorge, surrounded by lush forests and mountains. It is one of those places where people naturally stop, take a deep breath and reach for their camera.
Black River Gorges & Alexandra Falls Viewpoint
The drive itself is part of the experience. As you travel through the scenic Black River Gorges Nature Park, Mauritius’ largest protected forest, you will pass through beautiful mountain roads surrounded by lush greenery and endemic wildlife.
Along the way, there will be a stop at the famous Alexandra Falls viewpoint, where you can enjoy sweeping views over forests, valleys and waterfalls stretching across the South West - a side of Mauritius many visitors do not expect.
Curious Mauritius
Finally, wrap up your day at Curious Mauritius, located just opposite the Seven Coloured Earth entrance. With around 40 optical illusion exhibits spread over 5,000 m², it’s playful, interactive, and guaranteed to surprise and entertain kids and adults alike.
As soon as you walk in, you and your brain are both physically challenged by the conundrums and artefacts, set to shake your straightforward thinking.
