Route 1 - Le Morne Brabant Eco Green Bike Tour
Ever wondered why Le Morne features as one of the Cultural heritage sites of UNESCO?
Then you are invited to explore the majestic Le Morne Brabant which symbolises freedom in the history of Mauritius. The mountain stands tall at 556m high, adding an extra beauty to the natural setting.
Join this Eco friendly electric-bike trip to feel the authentic sensation of exploring beautiful scenery, the wilderness and the typical coastal villages of Mauritius.
The starting point of your ride is at “Place du Moulin” in Bel Ombre which is a restored sugar factory designed by Jean-François Adam, a renowned Mauritian architect.
You will then head towards Baie du Cap, an authentic fishing village for a quick stopover and then ride to the Baie du Cap bridge, where you will stop to view a monument erected in the name of Captain Matthew Flinders, a successful navigator and cartographer who circumnavigated Australia and encouraged the use of that name for the continent.
You will then move on to the Macondé viewpoint where you will have the chance to climb up the rock to take in the breathtaking view of the dramatic southern coastal scenery. Macondé beautifully expresses the wild character of the southern part of Mauritius.
The ride resumes in the direction of la Prairie where you will ride along one of the most breathtaking coastal roads. La Prairie is a beautiful , sandy beach where you can take in the amazing scenery with Le Morne Mountain in the background. Be sure to have your camera handy.
You will move towards the picturesque fishing village of Le Morne where you might even bump into a few friendly villagers for a quick chat.
Eventually, you will ride down a charming sandy road that weaves its way through lush green vegetation to end your ride back at the Place du Moulin, in Bel Ombre.
Route 2 – Chamarel Region Eco Green Bike Tour
Discover the famed southern region of Mauritius, Chamarel, with a pleasant ride on an electric bike - a truly unique way to explore the area. This tour is packed with hand-picked stops that combine the joy of cycling outdoors and an authentic cultural experience in Mauritius.
Hop onto your electric bike and let the journey begin. During your ride, you will pass by historical monuments, typical fishing villages as well as get a glimpse of iconic sites, including the Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth. The Chamarel region is quite hilly but since the e-bikes use electric power to augment your pedalling ability, the road will feel much shorter than it actually is.
Starting at Le Chamarel Restaurant, get a much needed energy boost by tasting the local coffee of the region, Chamarel Coffee. As you sip on your drink, be sure to take in the panoramic views and breathtaking landscape with Le Morne Mountain in the backdrop.
Next is a guided visit to the Rhumerie de Chamarel, where you will be given a behind the scenes tour of the distillery as well as a detailed explanation of the rum making. Discover the exclusive Rum making process, from the selection of sugar cane plants to the unique fermentation techniques that enhance their distinct flavours and ensure the finest aromas.
At the end of the tour, indulge in a unique rum tasting with a selection of the agricultural rums offered by the distillery. In contrast to the traditional rum produced by the distillation of molasses, agricultural rum is obtained by distilling pure cane juice, a process which gives it its specific flavours. While you’re at it, you might as well taste the locally sourced pineapples for a burst of freshness.
You will then head through the Chamarel Village, where you will come across some interesting landmarks including the Sainte-Anne Chapel. Continue pedalling your way and meet the friendly local giants of the region - the century old giant tortoises. Be sure to also keep your camera handy to get some shots of the breathtaking sceneries in the region.
Come across the Seven Coloured Earth of Chamarel and admire the dramatic geological formation created by volcanic rocks - glowing hillsides of red, violet, green, blue, purple and many other colours! You will even be able to spot the highest waterfall in Mauritius, the Chamarel Waterfall with a drop of almost 100m.
Ride past the plantations, gain interesting insights and learn more about the history of coffee in Mauritius. The guide will take you on a voyage back in time and educate you in the most fun ways on the island. You might wish to take another sip of the homegrown coffee that magically boosts your energy levels.
Your fun bike tour comes to an end at Le Chamarel restaurant, set in the sensational natural surroundings at Chamarel.
Route 3 – Grand Port Region Eco Green Bike Tour
As for the Eco Green Bike Tour in the Grand Port Region, your adventure begins at Falaise Rouge restaurant, Ferney. Following a comprehensive briefing, you'll hop on your bikes and set off towards the Dutch ruins of Fort Fréderick Hendrick, a historic stone structure that holds the distinction of being the first of its kind in the entire Indian Ocean.
The next part of your tour takes you to a workshop where skilled artisans craft traditional "Made in Moris" baskets, meticulously weaving Vacoas tree leaves. This age-old craft not only preserves tradition but also provides crucial financial support to many villagers in Old Grand Port. (Note: Workshop visits are available upon request during weekends.)
Continuing on, you'll effortlessly pedal your way to meet Pop, one of the last remaining Mauritian marine carpenters known as a "ranzer pirog mauricien." Here, you have the privilege of admiring his craftsmanship while savouring tamarind juice thoughtfully prepared by his wife, Salima - an authentic Mauritian way of life.
Next, you’ll head to Bois des Amourettes, a picturesque village nestled between Lion Mountain and Grand Port Bay along the southeastern coast of Mauritius. The village boasts a historic stone and concrete pier dating back to the 1940s, serving as a vital fishing ramp for the locals and a playground for their children. Your guide will enlighten you with intriguing details about this off-the-beaten-path tourist destination.
To cap off this remarkable outing, you'll indulge in a mouthwatering traditional Mauritian lunch at Falaise Rouge in Ferney (optional). Perched on a cliff, the restaurant offers a panoramic view, likely witnessed by locals during the famous naval battle of 1810.

- Optional lunch at the Falaise Rouge restaurant: 22 euros per person. Payment can be made in cash directly at the restaurant or upon reservation.
About the Rum of Rhumerie de Chamarel
The highlight of the whole process for the rum making at Rhumerie de Chamarel is to ensure a High Quality “Eco-Friendly” agricultural Rum. From the growing, harvest, fermentation and sophisticated distilling process, all is done so that the distillery can pride itself on the quality of its rum, achieved by distilling the fresh, fermented cane juice rather than that obtained from molasses.
Aligned with the concept of sustainable development, the distillery puts emphasis on its environmental efforts on recycling – ‘nothing goes to waste’ approach. Indeed, the bagasse, the fibrous residue remaining after juice extraction is collected and turned into energy, the industrial fumes are cleared before being released into the air, the ashes are spread in the fields to act as fertilisers and the steam retrieved from the process is used to water the gardens.
About the guide and the spirit of the trip:
Explore the authentic beauty of Mauritius with experienced guides who are here to provide you insightful and interesting information about places you would visit. Throughout the route, the guide will stop at various strategic points in order to explain the history or anecdotes of the area, or simply for a photo break or a moment of relaxation.
About the Electric Bike - Eco Green Bike Tour
An increasingly popular mode of transport, the electric-bicycle also known as an e-bike is a quality bicycle with an integrated electric motor that can be used for propulsion when required.
Riding the electric bicycle requires less effort than the ordinary bicycle and is thus less tiring thanks to its electric motor which gives you the extra push you need. All you need to do is pedal normally and the electric power assist motor turns on automatically. This makes it ideal for off-road trails where the assistance proves valuable during climbs or moments of fatigue. Hence, the e-bike allows you to visit more places with less effort than if you are using a classic bike.
Thanks to the extra push provided by the electric motor, the less sporty cyclist can easily keep up with others and nobody gets left behind regardless of the difference in physical abilities. This quality e-bike can reach 25 km/h.
All e-bikes are maintained by a team of professionals and regularly go through checks for brakes, wheels, pedals, lithium batteries, derailleur gears, and handlebar adjustment to ensure maximum safety.
