The whole excursion is a full day trip, giving you enough time to enjoy the view and to relax.
Mauritius Attractions offers two hiking routes for discovering the Tamarind Falls reserve. The exact route for your hike will be determined either at the time of booking, or on the day itself (as per the weather and terrain conditions on the day itself).
Option 1: Full day Hiking - Tamarind Falls
The hiking trip starts at 09:00 with a safety briefing and equipment introduction.
Then you will follow the trail for a 40 minutes hike discovering the first part of the Tamarind Falls canyon before reaching the hydro-electric power station found at the bottom of the canyon.
As part of this excursion you will enjoy the beautiful nature of the Tamarind nature reserve, seeing the famous beautiful Tamarind falls from close, and experiencing the adventure of canyoning with Mauritius’ top qualified guides.
The distance between the first and the second plateau is about 40 meters. After another steep descent you will arrive on the second plateau. Here you have to opportunity to jump off the waterfall. It’s a seven meter jump and it is the fastest way to go down to the next plateau.
For the non jumpers it only takes another steep path to go down to the third plateau. At the bottom of this water-fall you can take a refreshing swim in the cool, clear water.
When you reached the fifth waterfall, there are two ways to go down. The first way is a five meter jump into the water or you can climb down with the assistance of the nearby trees and branches, creating a natural ladder. Of course, the skilled guide will be by your side all along to guarantee your safety and guide you through the best available paths. That is one of the reasons why it’s important to have a guide.
To cool down, you can also take a relaxing swim in the lagoon type basin down at the bottom of the fifth waterfall.
Arriving at the seventh waterfall you will witness a superb view over the lushly green canyon. If you look back to the first waterfall, you will get a better idea of how high these magnificent waterfalls really are.
The distance from the seventh waterfall to its basin is approximately 60 meters.
For those who aren’t afraid of heights and want to take a look down, it would be wise to lie on your stomach just near the edge of the waterfall. Lying so close to the edge of the waterfall, looking down 60 meter is a real thrill! The Tamarind Falls are really worth a visit!
You will get to visit the Tamarind falls from close, have a cool bathe at the bottom of the series of falls, hike through Mauritius’ forest and have a real exciting adventure by canyoning down canyons, waterfalls and rivers.

Option 2: Full day Hiking - Tamarind Falls
The Tamarin Falls (7 waterfalls) are without any doubt, one of the most spectacular natural sites of Mauritius. If the complete descent of these Gorges in canyoning constitutes an adventure of scale, the hiking version gives access to the largest number of people.
Nevertheless, here, as often in Mauritius, the trip does not take neither a marked out nor a fitted-out path; it will often be necessary to progress between blocks, cross rivers and go down hills with the help of guavas trees.
However, this trip does not present insuperable difficulties and the supervision assured by our monitors will give you the opportunity to go through this outing with the best security conditions. You will discover about ten waterfalls of 10 to 55m of height, in a wild and forest environment.
During this trip the effort is never extreme and the rhythm is adapted, it is however advisable not to underestimate the duration of this “Full day” course. The beauty of the site and the possibilities of bathing in the numerous ponds in the feet of waterfalls will reward your efforts.
Having all these adventure rides in store, this place also provides a spellbinding view to nature lovers. Located amidst thick green bushes and trees, the blue waters flowing over the cascade become too irresistible, and you cannot help but get inside the waters just for a small dip at least. The entire scene is really hypnotic and pulls you closer.

What a place to trek! It was a good hike but really enjoyable and kids managed it well. The picnic lunch they provided us was amazing - as well as additional treats along the way to keep us well fed. They never rushed us - plenty time to swim and jump in. Very safety conscious without spoiling our fun. We had torrential rain whilst there so we had to cut our hike short towards the end - it wasn't safe because of the amount water cascading down the hillside. It added to the adventure for the kids - as we deployed the climbing ropes! Need to be pretty physical as quite a climb out. Our guides were great and very knowledgeable about their surroundings.
