Sail Into Paradise: A Luxurious Catamaran Cruise to Gabriel Island
Planning the ultimate highlight of your Mauritius holiday? Hop aboard a 45ft catamaran for a 7-hour cruise to the stunning Gabriel Island. Known for its pristine beaches and turquoise lagoon, this tropical gem is the perfect spot to relax and reconnect with nature.
Your adventure kicks off at 09:00 from Grand Baie, where you'll glide past Mauritius’ untouched islets, including the iconic Coin de Mire. Keep your eyes on the sky: exotic seabirds like the graceful Paille-en-Queue birds might just soar overhead! Meanwhile, the friendly crew will keep the energy high with local tales, lighthearted jokes, and Mauritian beats to set the mood.
Believe in luck? Stay on the lookout for dolphins playfully dancing in the waves or, if you’re cruising between June and October, a surprise appearance by whales! Should these majestic creatures be spotted, the captain will pause the cruise to give you a front-row seat to nature’s most spectacular show.
As you reach Gabriel Island after about an hour and a half of smooth sailing, prepare for a taste of paradise. Here, the choice is yours: explore the underwater world teeming with marine life or simply lay on the beach for a tan. Either way, it’s a scene straight out of a postcard.
Around midday, the aroma of a sizzling BBQ feast fills the air with fresh fish, succulent chicken, and a selection of refreshing salads served up on board. Don’t forget to grab a drink from the bar, where you'll be treated to a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages all day long. Because let’s be real, what’s a catamaran cruise without a cocktail (or two) in hand?
By 14:30, it’s time to bid farewell to Gabriel Island, but the fun’s far from over. As you cruise past Coin de Mire, why not ask the captain for a snorkelling break? One last dip in these shimmering waters is the perfect way to wrap up your day at sea. On the return sail, enjoy more drinks and music to keep the good vibes going until you dock at 16:00.
About Gabriel Island
Just 10 kilometres north of Cap Malheureux, Gabriel Island (Îlot Gabriel) is an unspoiled sanctuary in the Indian Ocean, lying between Flat Island and Round Island. Although only 42 hectares in size, it is a protected nature reserve known for its rich marine ecosystem and rare species.
This island is home to a variety of endemic plants and reptiles, including the Bouton’s skink, Bojer’s skink, and orange-tailed skink, as well as native geckos. In the skies, red-tailed and white-tailed tropicbirds can often be spotted, making the island an important habitat for local wildlife.
