Travel Formalities
A valid passport and a return ticket are required to enter Rodrigues. An initial authorized stay of up to three months is normally granted. The Plaine Corail airport has a limited access of air route, predominantly from and to Mauritius, until recently it has been extended to Reunion island.
How to Get there:
There are two ways of getting to the island, either by ship or by plane.
By Ship
A mixed cargo and passenger ship, the Mauritius Trochetia, serve the island on a nearly bimonthly basis. The trip that depart from Port Louis, Mauritius only, lasts between 36 and 48 hours depending on sea conditions.
By Plane
Air Mauritius provides a daily service between Rodrigues and Mauritius. The number of daily flights ranges from 2 to 5 depending on the period of the year. The trip lasts a maximum of 90 minutes by Air Austral.
The island’s main Air Mauritius office is in Port Mathurin. There is also an office at the airport, which is open for all arrivals and departures. It is always good to phone the airline the day before you leave anyway, just to make sure there’s been no change to the schedule. Whenever you travel book early as seats can be hard to come by if you leave it late.
Air Austral also provide flight services between Rodrigues and Reunion Island. The flights Rodrigues– Reunion Island–Rodrigues are schedules base on peak season and are operated on Fridays and on Sundays.
There is a luggage limit of 15kg per person, with excess charged at Rs 50 per kg.
