Villa Poseïdon is located in Cap Malheureux, 3.5 kms from Grand Bay, on the north-east coast of Mauritius.

The name of this place translates as ‘’ Unhappy Cape ‘’. It was so named following the sinking of the vessel Saint Geran on the 18 August 1744, which inspired Bernardin de St Pierre to write his famous novel ‘’ Paul and Virginie ‘’.

Location of Villa POSEÏDON

Villa Poseidon is located in Cap Malheureux, 10 minutes from Grand Bay.

The small fishing village of Cap Malheureux ( ‘’ Unfortunate Cape ‘’, named as such due to the numerous ships which floundered there in the past) is made of a few private villas and shelters a marine cemetery, a Hindu temple and the famous red-roofed Chapel of Notre-Dame Auxilliary which is found on many postcards and all tourists guides.

It is also a place full of history as the English landed there in 1810 to take possession of Mauritius from the French.

It is a very small spot, and if you are a photographer, the light is wonderful and is a festival of color between the blue of the sea, the green of the vegetation and the red roof of the church.

Villa Poseidon which is in beachfront on the bay, is 200 meters from the red-roof chapel, landmark of Cap Malheureux. This small village is a real paradisiac setting with its beach and its fishermen moving about, with its small chapel which has the peculiarity of being topped by that flaming red roof overlooking the ocean

At Poseidon you will be in real postcard scenery in the heart of one of the most scenic tours of our island.

On Sunday, many devotees come to hear mass at the chapel. Their songs and dances animate this attractive place and street vendors are to be found to purchase fruit, local products and pareos.

A magnificent view of the Gunners Quoin Island, right in the front of the villa, is one of the great attractions of villa Poseîdon which sits right on a small sandy beach where fishermen come in with their boats. The lagoon view is amazing, the sea of Cap Malheureux offering exceptional green, turquoise and blue shades.

Offshore, other islands of the North of Mauritius stand out in a post-card image: Flat Island and its lighthouse, Gabriel Island following Pigeon's Rock and its famous sharks pit where adventurous divers get the thrill of their life, Round Island with its sea birds and snakes reserve and finally the Snake Island, unfairly named as it does not have a single reptile on its shores!

Staff of Villa Poseïdon

A housekeeper and a cook works from Monday to Saturday from 8h30 am to 13h30 pm, with the exception of Bank Holidays.

The cook prepares breakfast and one meal per day, a lunch OR a pre-cooked dinner. She maintains the kitchen in order and takes care of the dish washing.

Purchasing groceries Is your responsibility.

The housekeeper takes care of the rooms, cleans the house, does the laundry and makes the beds but her tasks do not include ironing the guests' clothes. She works the same hours as the cook.

Their services are included in the rental price. Tipping is at your discretion. We recommend € 5 per day per person.
