Parasailing

Parasailing in Mauritius

Parasailing, also known as parascending, is an activity where a person is towed behind a boat while attached to a specially designed parachute, known as a parasail. The boat then drives off, carrying the parascender into the air. If the boat is powerful enough, two or three people can parasail behind it at the same time.

Kitesurfing

Kitesurfing or kiteboarding is a surface water sport that uses wind power to pull a rider through the water on a small surfboard or a kiteboard.

Kitesurfing Mauritius

Generally kiteboarding refers to a style of riding known as freestyle or wake-style, whereas kitesurfing is more "wave-riding" oriented. Kitesurfers use power kites hooked into harnesses to glide through water and air.

Today the sport is much safer due to innovations in kite design, safety release systems, and instruction.

Today you will find many riding styles have evolved to suit different types of riders and conditions.

Deep sea fishing / Big game fishing

Big-game fishing, often referred to as offshore sportfishing, offshore gamefishing, or blue-water fishing is a form of leisure fishing, targeting large fish renowned for their sporting qualities, such as tuna and marlin.

Big-game fishing requires a boat of sufficient size and power to transport the crew to the fishing grounds and back.

Deep sea fishing Mauritius

Once you catch a fish, due to their size, a somewhat tricky task is often to pull the fish on board of the boat.

Therefore the fishing reels/cylinders have sophisticated drag mechanisms which allow the line to escape if the fish pulls on it, but keep the specified tension on the line.

When hooked, most fish will circulate in different directions, and when they are not pulling away from the boat the fisherman can take the opportunity to reel in some of the line.

Eventually, if the fish tires and has not broken the line, they will be reeled in; however, the challenge does not end there. Hauling a heavy, powerful, and still very much alive fish on board the boat represents a considerable challenge.

The fish can be fought with or without a game-chair. With a game chair, the person fishing sits in a specially-designed chair at the stern of the boat. The chairs give more control and stability to the fisherman. Fishing without the assistance of a game-chair and with the seat mount replaced by a harness a game-chair, known as "stand-up" game fishing, and it requires a good deal of strength and endurance, as well as body mass.

Windsurfing

Windsurfing Mauritius

Windsurfing, or sailboarding, is a surface water sport using a windsurf board usually two to five meters long and powered by the wind pushing on a sail. A windsurfer is steered by the leaning and rotating of the mast.

The sport combines aspects of both sailing and surfing, along with certain athletic aspects shared with other board sports like skateboarding, snowboarding, waterskiing. With coaching and favorable conditions, the basic skills of sailing, steering, and turning can be learned within a few hours.

Water Skiing

Water Skiing Mauritius

Water skiing is a sport where an individual (or more than one individual) is pulled behind a motor boat or a cable ski installation on a body of water wearing one or more skis.

The surface area of the ski (or skis) keeps the person skimming on the surface of the water allowing the skier to stand upright while holding the tow rope.

SCUBA Diving

SCUBA Diving (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) - is swimming underwater, or taking part in another activity, while using a scuba set.

SCUBA Diving Mauritius

By carrying a source of breathing gas (usually compressed air), the scuba diver is able to stay underwater longer than with the simple breath-holding techniques used in snorkeling and free-diving, and is not hindered by air lines to a remote air source. The scuba diver typically swims underwater by using fins attached to the feet. Scuba diving is still evolving, but general classifications have grown to describe various diving activities.
